Amerikas außerparlamentarische Opposition: Über die Hintergründe und Auswirkungen der Tea-Party-Bewegung in den USA

Abstract

Innerhalb nur eines Jahres hat sich die amerikanische Tea-Party-Bewegung als fester Bestandteil des politischen Diskurses etabliert. Der massive öffentliche Widerstand gegen die Gesundheitsreform und erste Erfolge bei republikanischen Vorwahlen zum Kongress brachten die Bewegung ins öffentliche Bewusstsein. Ungeachtet der großen medialen Aufmerksamkeit herrscht nach wie vor Unklarheit über die genauen Ursachen, Beweggründe und politischen Folgen dieses rechtskonservativen Aktivismus. Seine Ziele scheinen widersprüchlich und sind jenseits einer diffusen Unzufriedenheit mit der etablierten Politik nur schwer auf einen Nenner zu bringen. Wer sind die Tea-Party-Aktivisten und was wollen sie? Welche Auswirkungen haben ihre Aktivitäten auf die politische Landschaft in den USA?
