Fragiler Staat Timor-Leste: Kann die neue Regierung die Staatskrise beenden?

Abstract

Am 8. August 2007 wurde in Dili, der Hauptstadt Timor-Lestes, die neue Koalitionsregierung unter Ministerpräsident Xanana Gusmao vereidigt. Enttäuschte Anhänger der bisherigen Regierungspartei FRETILIN protestierten gewaltsam gegen die Entscheidung des Präsidenten, Gusmao die Regierungsbildung zu übertragen. Die seit Ausbruch der politischen Krise im April 2006 stationierte VN-Polizei und die Internationale Schutztruppe waren erneut gezwungen, einzugreifen. Die neue Regierung muss rasch Lösungen für drängende Probleme des Landes finden, um das Vertrauen der Bevölkerung wiederzugewinnen. Dazu sind insbesondere die Stärkung der Rechtsstaatlichkeit und des Sicherheitssektors notwendig. (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
