Ägypten auf dem Weg zur "Familienrepublik": Parlaments- und Präsidentschaftswahlen und die Erbfolge im Präsidentenamt

Abstract

In Ägypten sollen 2010 Parlamentswahlen und 2011 Präsidentschaftswahlen abgehalten werden. Die Spekulationen nehmen zu, wer das Land in Zukunft regieren wird, sollte der heute 81-jährige Staatspräsident Husni Mubarak hierzu gesundheitlich nicht mehr in der Lage sein. Offenkundig hat der engste Führungszirkel um den Präsidenten bereits seit Ende der 1990er Jahre Gamal Mubarak als Nachfolger seines Vaters aufgebaut. Wann er aber die Führung des Landes übernehmen soll, ist unklar. Die bevorstehenden Wahlen dürften eine wichtige Weichenstellung für diese Machtfolge innerhalb der Familie sein. Zu befürchten ist, dass der Spielraum der Opposition weiter reduziert wird und die Unzufriedenheit mit dem politischen System in der Bevölke-rung wächst. Deutschland und die EU sollten daher in den kommenden Monaten auf eine Lockerung der restriktiven Wahlgesetzgebung und einen möglichst fairen und transparenten Ablauf der Wahlen drängen
