Abstract

Immer vernehmlicher fordern die USA von China die Aufwertung des Yuan. Dieser Forderung haben sich die Finanzminister und Notenbankgouverneure der G 7 auf ihrem Jahrestreffen in Dubai mit einem Plädoyer für flexible Wechselkurse implizit angeschlossen. China, das seine Währung seit 1994 im Verhältnis 1 zu 8,28 fest an den US-Dollar gekoppelt hält, lehnt eine Aufwertung bislang aber strikt ab. Was sind die Motive der USA und Chinas für ihre konträren Positionen? Wird es China möglich sein, seine gegenwärtige Position dauerhaft zu behaupten? Ist dies für China überhaupt sinnvoll? Muß Europa negative Rückwirkungen befürchten? (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
