Simbabwe zwischen den Wahlen

Abstract

Nachdem die Wahlkommission in Simbabwe das offizielle Ergebnis der Präsidentschaftswahl vom 29. März bekanntgegeben hat, scheint das Land auf eine Stichwahl zuzusteuern. Oppositionskandidat Morgan Tsvangirai hat im ersten Wahlgang mit 47,9 Prozent der Stimmen die absolute Mehrheit knapp verfehlt. Er liegt aber deutlich vor dem langjährigen Amtsinhaber Robert Mugabe, für den 43,2 Prozent der Wähler votierten. Dieses Resultat bestätigt im Wesentlichen die Zahlen, die das unabhängige »Zimbabwe Election Support Network« schon unmittelbar nach der Wahl veröffentlicht hat. Der Stimmenanteil Tsvangirais liegt jedoch entscheidend unter jenen 50,3 Prozent, welche die Oppositionspartei »Movement for Democratic Change« (MDC) nach wie vor für ihren Kandidaten reklamiert
