Die Zementierung des harten Brexits: Die Neuwahlen in Großbritannien und das EU-Austrittsverfahren

Abstract

Mit vorgezogenen Neuwahlen will sich Theresa May zu Beginn der Brexit-Verhandlungen ein neues Mandat geben lassen. Damit verstärkt sie drei zentrale innenpolitische Ent-wicklungen, welche die politische Landschaft im Post-Brexit-Großbritannien prägen: Erstens zementiert Theresa May mit den Neuwahlen ihre Strategie eines harten Brexits in ihrer eigenen Partei, gegenüber dem House of Lords und in der britischen Öffentlich-keit. Zweitens fehlen den 48 Prozent der Briten, die für den Verbleib in der EU gestimmt haben, parteipolitische Optionen, um gegen den harten Brexit einzutreten. Drittens bie-ten die Neuwahlen neuen Zündstoff für die Spannungen in Schottland und Nordirland. (SWP-Aktuell)
