Syrien: Gefährliches Patt zwischen Regime und Opposition

Abstract

Fünf Monate nach dem Beginn der Protestbewegung im März 2011 befindet sich Syrien in einem gefährlichen Patt zwischen dem seit fünfzig Jahren herrschenden Baath-Regime und der Opposition. Weder gelingt es dem Regime, das Momentum der Proteste durch eine Mischung aus Repression und wenig glaubwürdigen Reformversprechen zu ersticken, noch vermag die heterogene Opposition, politische Handlungsmacht zu entwickeln, mit der sie einen Übergang zu einer demokratischen Gesellschaftsordnung erzwingen und ein Abgleiten in unkontrollierbare Gewalt verhindern könnte
