Autokratien unter US-Vormundschaft: Venezuela, Kuba und die Interessen der Regierung Trump

Abstract

Die imperiale Politik der USA gegenüber Lateinamerika und der Karibik verbindet Dominanzbestrebungen mit Exklusivitätsansprüchen. Mit drastischen Zwangsmaßnahmen forciert Washington in Venezuela eine ökonomische Transformation ohne politische Transition, während es Kuba mit einer Treibstoffblockade belegt und dem Inselstaat mit Übernahme droht. In diesen Ländern sollten Deutschland und die EU in erster Linie die Zivilgesellschaft unterstützen. Sie sollten aber auch die bestehenden Verstöße gegen das Völkerrecht deutlich benennen und sich klar gegen die Enttabuisierung von Gewalt und die Missachtung der Menschenrechte positionieren.
