Einsame Regionalmacht Indien: Neu-Delhi findet kaum noch Partner in seiner Nachbarschaft

Abstract

Die Außenpolitik Indiens ist von einem Paradox geprägt. Das Land hat in letzter Zeit auf internationaler Bühne an Einfluss gewonnen, zugleich aber im regionalen Kontext an Bedeutung verloren. Seit Mitte der 2010er Jahre konnte China seine wirtschaftliche und politische Position in Südasien stärken. Dies hat einer Reihe von Staaten aus Indiens Nachbarschaft neue Möglichkeiten eröffnet, sich kritisch gegenüber Neu-Delhi zu positionieren. Neu ist, dass die USA und China infolge des indisch-pakistanischen Konflikts von Mai 2025 begonnen haben, Indiens Rolle als Regionalmacht in Frage zu stellen - und damit auch seine Ambitionen als aufstrebende Großmacht. Diese Entwicklungen werden Indiens Gewicht in der Region weiter sinken lassen. Eine Reaktion Neu-Delhis besteht darin, verstärkt mit Partnern im Indo-Pazifik sowie Mittelmächten wie Deutschland und Frankreich zu kooperieren, um seine wirtschaftliche Leistungsfähigkeit zu erhöhen. Abzuwarten bleibt, ob und wie sehr Indien damit auch seinen Handlungsspielraum auf regionaler Ebene wieder erweitern kann.
