Modis Indien: Die Bharatiya Janata Party erringt ein klares Mandat für eine zweite Amtszeit

Abstract

Erwartungsgemäß hat die Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) von Premierminister Narendra Modi die Parlamentswahl gewonnen, die im April und Mai 2019 in Indien abgehalten wurde. Nicht erwartet wurde aber, dass die BJP ihre absolute Mehrheit noch ausbauen würde. Dieser deutliche Erfolg ist in erster Linie der Person des Premierministers zu verdanken. Modi hat damit ein klares Mandat für ein 'neues Indien', das künftig wohl stärker von den Werten der hinduistischen Mehrheit geprägt sein wird. Die damit verbundenen innenpolitischen Auseinandersetzungen könnten auch zur Herausforderung für die Grundlagen der indischen Demokratie werden.
