Politische Auswirkungen der Flutkatastrophe in Indonesien und Sri Lanka

Abstract

Die am 26. Dezember 2004 vom indonesischen Sumatra ausgegangene Flutwelle hat in Indonesien, Malaysia, Thailand, Birma, Sri Lanka, Indien und auf den Malediven mehr als 170 000 Menschen das Leben gekostet. Die Zusagen der internationalen Gemeinschaft, für den Wiederaufbau der zerstörten Gebiete umfangreiche Hilfen zu leisten, verbinden sich mit der Hoffnung, die seit vielen Jahren schwelenden Bürgerkriege in Indonesien und Sri Lanka beilegen zu können. Angesichts der Konstellationen in den betroffenen Staaten sind positive Veränderungen auch durchaus nicht auszuschließen. Allerdings ist es fraglich, ob durch die internationale Unterstützung eine dauerhafte Konfliktbeilegung erreicht werden kann. (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
