Georgien am Scheideweg: Rückbau demokratischer Errungenschaften und Abkehr von prowestlichem Kurs

Abstract

Georgien befindet sich an einer Weggabelung: innenpolitisch durch den Rückbau demokratischer Errungenschaften, außenpolitisch durch eine Rekonfiguration seiner Außenbeziehungen. Beeinflusst werden diese Dynamiken durch geopolitische Disruptionen in der Region und auf globaler Ebene. Im Umgang mit dieser Herausforderung sollte die EU eine bedachtsame Nutzung von Kommunikationskanälen im Sinne der demokratischen und europäischen Zukunft Georgiens prüfen, Kooperationsfragen eng an deren Implikationen für die Bevölkerung knüpfen sowie die Resilienz der georgischen Zivilgesellschaft stärken. Fortschritte anderer EU-Beitrittskandidaten würden EU-skeptische Stimmen schwächen und könnten den gesellschaftlichen Rückhalt für Georgiens europäische Perspektive festigen.
