Chinas arktische Wende: Ursachen, Entwicklungen, Perspektiven

Abstract

Abgesehen von einigen aufsehenerregenden, aber letztlich gescheiterten Infrastrukturprojekten und einem überraschenden Besuch des Eisbrechers Xuelong vor der grönländischen Hauptstadt Nuuk ist die Volksrepublik China in der Arktis lange Zeit vorsichtig und zurückhaltend im Schatten der arktischen Großmacht Russland aufgetreten. Erstmals zeigten im Juli und August 2024 weitere drei Eisbrecher - Xuelong 2, Ji Di und Zhong Shan Da Xue Ji Di - chinesische Präsenz in der Arktis. Peking signalisiert damit weitergehende Absichten: Der Bau eines schweren Eisbrechers soll eine ständige Präsenz im Nordpolarmeer ermöglichen. Ein bizarrer Höhepunkt dieser Entwicklung wurde erreicht, als die staatliche russische Nachrichtenagentur RIA Novosti im Oktober 2024 titelte: "Die Arktis wird chinesisch". Welche Ursachen und Implikationen hat diese arktische Wende Chinas?
