Abstract

In Washington wird seit Ende Juli 2003 der Kongreßbericht zur Arbeit der nationalen Sicherheitsbehörden im Kontext des 11. September 2001 diskutiert. Dessen Inhalt bringt Saudi-Arabien erneut ins Kreuzfeuer der Kritik. Dabei ist der Anti-Terrorkampf des Regimes in Riad in den letzten Monaten vom Westen nahezu unbemerkt in eine neue Phase getreten und wird mit ungewohnter Intensität geführt. Was konkret tut die Regierung in Riad, um den Terrorismus zu bekämpfen und das Land langfristig aus den Schlagzeilen zu bringen? Und welche Folgen haben die bereits ergriffenen Maßnahmen?
