Verpasste Chance für Islamabad: Das pakistanisch-amerikanische Verhältnis nach dem Tod Osama bin Ladens

Abstract

Die Tötung Osama bin Ladens durch amerikanische Spezialkräfte am 2. Mai 2011 hat das schon lange angespannte Verhältnis zwischen Pakistan und den USA einer weiteren Belastungsprobe ausgesetzt. Dabei hätte zumindest theoretisch die Chance bestanden, die Beziehungen grundlegend zu verbessern, wenn die Aktion gegen bin Laden als gemeinsamer Erfolg der Sicherheitsdienste beider Staaten dargestellt worden wäre. Pakistan hätte daraus immense politische, militärische und wirtschaftliche Vorteile ziehen können. Dass diese Chance verpasst wurde, zeigt im Umkehrschluss, wie schlecht es um die bilateralen Beziehungen tatsächlich bestellt ist. Zugleich taucht damit die Frage auf, wie Pakistan sich künftig außenpolitisch ausrichten will und welche Haltung es zur Stabilisierung in Afghanistan an den Tag legen wird
