Kroatiens Drängen in die EU: Ein verfrühter Beitritt würde dem Land, den anderen Kandidaten und der EU schaden

Abstract

Geht es nach den Wünschen der Regierung und der Opposition in Zagreb, werden bereits in wenigen Wochen die verbliebenen Stolpersteine aus dem Weg geräumt und die seit 2005 laufenden EU-Beitrittsverhandlungen bis Ende Juni dieses Jahres abgeschlossen sein. Allerdings sind in Schlüsselbereichen - vor allem bei der Durchsetzung der Rechtsstaatlichkeit - nach wie vor erhebliche Umsetzungsprobleme des EU-Besitzstands vorhanden. Die Europäische Kommission und die EU-Mitgliedsländer sollten deshalb dem Verlangen nach einem Schnelldurchlauf nicht nachgeben, sondern auf der Beseitigung der Defizite beharren
