Thailand vor schwierigen Herausforderungen: Der Rücktritt von Ministerpräsident Thaksin läßt wichtige Fragen offen

Abstract

Die politische Debatte in Thailand ist noch immer auf den am 4. April zurückgetretenen Ministerpräsidenten Thaksin fixiert. Mit seinem erzwungenen Rücktritt, der Annullierung der am 2. April durchgeführten Wahlen und der Anberaumung von Neuwahlen hat die Opposition einen wichtigen Etappensieg errungen. Dabei sind eine Reihe grundlegender Probleme völlig in den Hintergrund getreten: etwa die Reform der Verfassung, die gewaltsamen Auseinandersetzungen in den südlichen Grenzprovinzen, schwerwiegende wirtschaftliche Umstrukturierungsprobleme und Thailands geschwächte außenpolitische Position. Weder die Regierung noch die Opposition haben sich eingehend mit diesen Problemen auseinandergesetzt, deren Bewältigung für die zukünftige Entwicklung Thailands von entscheidender Bedeutung ist.
