Abstract

Viktor Janukowytsch, der Führer der ukrainischen Opposition, errang bei den Präsidentschaftswahlen mit 49 Prozent der Stimmen einen klaren, wenn auch knappen Sieg über die damalige Premierministerin Julia Tymoschenko (45,5 Prozent). Am 25. Februar wurde er als Präsident der Ukraine vereidigt. Als nächsten Schritt muss er eine stabile Mehrheit im Parlament finden und eine Regierung bilden. Sollte ihm dies gelingen, wird er die Chance haben, seine Prioritäten umzusetzen. Seine Politik wird erstens vom Umgang mit der katastrophalen wirtschaftlichen Lage der Ukraine und zweitens von dem Bemühen dominiert sein, die heterogenen Interessen seiner finanziellen Unterstützer zu bedienen. Insofern werden innenpolitische und binnenwirtschaftliche Faktoren seine außenpolitischen Prioritäten und die Beziehungen der Ukraine zu Russland und der EU prägen
