Der Einmarsch der Türkei in Afrin: Grenzüberschreitender "Kampf gegen die PKK" zur militärischen Lösung der eigenen Kurdenfrage

Abstract

Am 18. März verkündete der türkische Staatspräsident Recep Tayyip Erdoğan die Einnahme der syrisch-kurdischen Stadt Afrin. Fast genau acht Wochen davor waren türkische Truppen in die seit den 1920er Jahren kurdisch besiedelte Region eingerückt, die von Kämpfern der syrisch-kurdischen Partei der Demokratischen Union (PYD) kontrolliert wurde. Die PYD ist eng mit der türkischen Arbeiterpartei Kurdistans (PKK) verbunden, und die Invasion ist Teil des jüngsten Versuchs der Türkei, ihre interne Kurdenfrage militärisch zu lösen. Bereits zu Beginn des Feldzugs kündigte die Türkei in diesem Kontext weitere Militäroperationen an. Alle von Kurden gehaltenen Gebiete in Nordsyrien sollen 'befreit' werden. Wenn die Parlamentswahlen im Irak im Mai dieses Jahres vorüber sind, will die türkische Regierung auch dort militärisch gegen die PKK vorgehen. Ankara nimmt sich offensichtlich ein Beispiel an Russland: Es will künftig vermehrt zu kriegerischen Mitteln greifen, um seine Ziele durchzusetzen.
