Präsidenschaftswahlen in Argentinien: Kontinuität ohne Votum

Abstract

Das wohl schlechteste Szenario ist eingetreten: Die Präsidentschaftswahlen haben nicht zur erhofften politischen Erneuerung und einer Rückkehr zur demokratischen Normalität geführt, sondern eine institutionelle Krise provoziert, die dem ohnehin angeschlagenen Land gerade noch gefehlt hat. Zuletzt brachte Ex-Präsident Carlos Menem die Argentinier um ihr demokratisches Recht zu wählen, als er in einer groß inszenierten Show seine Kandidatur zurückzog. Den Ausschlag gaben die schlechten Umfrageergebnisse, die ihm für den zweiten Wahlgang am 18. Mai eine vernichtende Niederlage voraussagten. Die Stichwahl fiel aus, und Menems ebenfalls peronistischer Gegenspieler Néstor Kirchner wurde automatisch neuer Präsident Argentiniens. Das ist ein schlechter Start für die Regierung, um die enormen politischen und wirtschaftlichen Probleme des Landes zu bewältigen. (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
