Abstract

Die chinesisch-japanische Kontroverse ist mit der Entschuldigung von Premierminister Koizumi für die japanische Kriegsschuld und dem anschließenden Treffen mit dem chinesischen Staatschef Hu Jintao nicht beigelegt. Der Ursprung des Disputs besteht nicht in historischen Fragen, sondern in Tokyos Bemühungen um ein größeres regionales und internationales sicherheitspolitisches Profil und in der zunehmenden Einbeziehung Taiwans in die japanisch-amerikanische Allianzplanung. Während die ökonomische Logik für eine einvernehmliche Beilegung spricht, gewinnen nationalistische Tendenzen auf beiden Seiten an Dynamik. (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
