Bangladesch: Erfolge im Kampf gegen islamistische Militanz. Demokratie und Rechtsstaatlichkeit als Schutz gegen Radikalismus

Abstract

Nach der Rückkehr Bangladeschs zur Demokratie hat das drittgrößte mehrheitlich muslimische Land der Welt weiter mit militanten islamistischen Strömungen zu kämpfen. Dabei haben Regierung und Justiz in den letzten zwei Jahren beachtliche Erfolge in drei Bereichen erzielt: Der »High Court« hat das säkulare Rechtswesen gestärkt, indem er auf der Grundlage von »fatwas« verhängte Strafen verbot. Die Regierung hat ein spezielles Tribunal für die Ahndung von Kriegsverbrechen eingerichtet, die während des Unabhängigkeitskrieges 1971 von Islamisten begangen wurden. Zudem ließ sie zahlreiche Mitglieder terroristischer Vereinigungen verhaften. Bangladesch liefert ein Beispiel dafür, dass sich Islam und Demokratie vereinbaren lassen. Den Kampf gegen islamistische Militanz führt das Land vorwiegend mit rechtsstaatlichen Mitteln
