Ein neuer Präsident in Nordzypern: Das Ende einer Ära, keine Lösung in Sicht

Abstract

Mit der Wahl vom 17. April 2005 endete in Nordzypern die Ära des langjährigen Präsidenten Rauf Denktas. Nach fast 30 Jahren im höchsten Amt der Türkischen Republik Nordzypern (TRNZ) wird der entschiedene Gegner einer Wiedervereinigung der beiden Inselteile vom bisherigen Premierminister Mehmet Ali Talat abgelöst. Ist der Aufstieg Talats vom Regierungschef zum Volksgruppenführer Anlaß zu neuer Hoffnung auf die Wiederaufnahme der Verhandlungen auf der Insel? Die rigide Haltung des zyperngriechischen Präsidenten Tassos Papadopoulos spricht dagegen. Der Führungswechsel im Norden bringt kein Ende der Hängepartie in der Zypernfrage. Das Hindernis Zypernkonflikt wird daher vorerst nicht vom türkischen Weg in die EU verschwinden. (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
