Ein Rückschlag für den Friedensprozeß? Die 13. Parlamentswahlen in Sri Lanka

Abstract

Die 13. Parlamentswahlen in Sri Lanka am 2. April 2004 haben erneut einen Regierungswechsel gebracht und die politische Landschaft weiter polarisiert. Das oppositionelle Parteienbündnis der United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA), bestehend aus der Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) und der singhalesisch-nationalistischen Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), errang 105 von 225 Sitzen, während die regierende United National Party (UNP) von Premierminister Ranil Wickremesinghe nur auf 82 Mandate kam. Die Tamil National Alliance (TNA), die als parlamentarisches Sprachrohr der militanten Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) gelten kann, gewann in den tamilischen Gebieten im Norden und Osten der Insel 22 Sitze. Überraschenderweise konnte die Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), eine national-konservative Partei buddhistischer Mönche, neun Sitze erringen. Damit haben die nationalistischen Kräfte auf beiden Seiten an Gewicht gewonnen, was sich eher negativ auf den Friedensprozeß auswirken dürfte. Zugleich haben auch die internationalen Vermittlungsbemühungen einen Rückschlag erlitten. (SWP-aktuell / SWP)
