Wie "erweiterungsmüde" ist die EU?

Abstract

In der EU hat sich nach Auffassung zahlreicher Politiker »Erweiterungsmüdigkeit« breitgemacht. In den Augen vieler behindere eine zu rasche Ausdehnung der Union jeden weiteren Integrationsfortschritt. Dem soll mit einer größeren Zurückhaltung gegenüber neuen Beitritten begegnet werden. Ein Blick auf jüngere EU-weite Umfragedaten zeigt jedoch, dass die »Erweiterungsmüdigkeit« höchst ungleich verteilt ist: befallen davon ist gut die Hälfte der Altmitglieder, darunter viele Gründungsstaaten der Union. Die große Mehrheit der Bevölkerung in den neuen Mitgliedstaaten hingegen hat keine Einwände gegen weitere Beitritte. Diesem differenzierten Meinungsbild sollte in der geplanten »Berliner Erklärung« aus Anlass des 50jährigen Jubiläums der Gründungsverträge Rechnung getragen werden.(SWP-aktuell / SWP)
