Rückkehr zu innen- und außenpolitischer Verhärtung in Kuba

Abstract

Im Windschatten des Irak-Krieges nutzte das Castro-Regime die wachsenden Spannungen mit der Interessenvertretung der USA in Havanna als Argument für eine Welle der Repression. Mitte März wurden 79 Dissidenten verhaftet und zwei Wochen später in einem nichtöffentlichen Schnellprozeß zu teilweise über 20 Jahren Haft verurteilt. Zwei Flugzeugentführungen kubanischer Luftpiraten, die sich in die USA absetzen wollten, und die offene Unterstützung von Dissidenten seitens der amerikanischen Interessenvertretung veranlaßten das Castro-Regime zu dieser neuerlichen innen- und außenpolitischen Verhärtung. Damit verschärfte Fidel Castro nicht nur den Konflikt mit den USA, sondern verhinderte mit an Sicherheit grenzender Wahrscheinlichkeit zum vierten Mal die Normalisierung der Beziehungen zur EU.
