Die Transformation des Konflikts in Sri Lanka: Das Ende des Waffenstillstands und der Niedergang der LTTE

Abstract

Mit der Aufkündigung des Waffenstillstands zum 16.Januar 2008 hat die Regierung Sri Lankas die Zeichen auf eine militärische Lösung des langwierigen Konflikts mit den Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) gesetzt. Damit sind auch die Bemühungen der internationalen Gemeinschaft um eine friedliche Vermittlung gescheitert. Die jüngsten Vorschläge der Regierung zielen darauf ab, die LTTE politisch zu marginalisieren. Der Bürgerkrieg könnte nun seine internationale Dimension verlieren und sich in einen lokalen Konflikt wandeln. In den nächsten Monaten ist mit einer Eskalation des Bürgerkriegs zu rechnen, mit der die Regierung eine militärische Lösung erzwingen und die LTTE eine erneute Einmischung der internationalen Gemeinschaft erreichen will
