US-Außenpolitik unter Präsident Trump: Zum Umgang mit neuen Herausforderungen in den transatlantischen Beziehungen

Abstract

Niemand vermag vorauszusehen, wie sich die US-Außenpolitik unter Präsident Donald Trump im Laufe der Zeit entwickeln wird. Doch eines lässt sich sagen: Zum ersten Mal seit dem Aufstieg der USA zur Supermacht hat mit Trump ein Präsident das Amt angetre-ten, der den hegemonial-internationalistischen Konsens aufkündigt, sei es in seiner konservativen, sei es in seiner liberalen Variante. Bündnisverpflichtungen in Frage zu stellen, wie Trump es im Wahlkampf getan hat, und einem ökonomischen Nutzenkalkül zu unterwerfen, pflanzt ein Element der Unsicherheit in die transatlantischen Beziehungen und nährt die Sorge, ob mit der Führungsmacht USA weiterhin zu rechnen ist.
