Abstract

Ist der Euro für zukünftige Herausforderungen gut gerüstet? Nach der Corona-Pandemie, der Energiekrise und der Hochinflation der Jahre 2021 bis 2023 stellt sich diese Frage mit neuer Dringlichkeit. Zwar ist die Inflationsrate inzwischen wieder deutlich gesunken. Die Erfahrungen der vergangenen Jahre haben jedoch grundlegende Schwächen des institutionellen Ordnungsrahmens der Europäischen Währungsunion offengelegt. Vor diesem Hintergrund analysiert der Kronberger Kreis, wissenschaftlicher Beirat der Stiftung Marktwirtschaft, den aktuellen Zustand der Währungsunion. Im Mittelpunkt stehen die geldpolitische Strategie der Europäischen Zentralbank, die institutionelle Architektur des Euroraums sowie die internationale Rolle des Euro. Auf dieser Grundlage werden konkrete Reformvorschläge für eine langfristig stabile und zukunftsfeste Währungsunion entwickelt.
