Ruhestand beschleunigt geistigen Abbau

Abstract

Durch den Renteneintritt bauen viele Menschen schneller ab. Auch schwere körperliche Erkrankungen reduzieren langfristig die geistige Fitness. - Im höheren Alter gehen die kognitiven Fähigkeiten allmählich zurück. Die geistige Fitness hängt aber auch stark von bestimmten Faktoren ab: So zeigt eine RWI-Studie, dass die meisten Menschen infolge der Verrentung ihre Gedächtnisfähigkeiten deutlich schneller verlieren. Auch schwere körperliche Erkrankungen reduzieren langfristig die geistige Fitness - selbst wenn die Erkrankung schon lange überwunden ist. Um die kognitiven Fähigkeiten älterer Menschen möglichst lange zu erhalten, braucht es ein gesellschaftliches Umdenken.
