Längere Lebensdauer: Gesunde oder kranke Jahre?

Abstract

Die Lebenserwartung für ältere Jahrgänge steigt an und geht mit zunehmenden Einschränkungen bei Alltagsaktivitäten einher. - Die Altersklasse 50+ konnte in den letzten Jahren erhebliche Zuwächse in der Lebenserwartung verzeichnen. Dies ist vor allem auf den medizinisch-technischen Fortschritt zurückzuführen. Weil die durchschnittliche Anzahl an Krankheiten in jeder Alterskohorte zunimmt, steigt auch die Krankheitsrate in der Bevölkerung an. Gleichzeitig bleibt der einschränkende Einfluss von Krankheiten unverändert. Neue Forschungserkenntnisse für europäische Länder zeigen: Zusätzliche Lebensjahre werden vermehrt mit gesundheitlichen Einschränkungen verbracht.
