Alternde Wählerschaft führt zu weniger öffentlichen Investitionen

Abstract

Hohe Staatsverschuldung liefert nur einen Teil der Erklärung für den seit vier Jahrzehnten anhaltenden Rückgang von Investitionen in Infrastruktur. - Öffentliche Investitionen, etwa in die Infrastruktur, gehen seit vier Jahrzehnten zurück. Eine neue RWI-Studie zeigt für 13 OECD-Länder erstmals den negativen Zusammenhang dieser Entwicklung mit einer immer älter werdenden Bevölkerung. Da Senioren andere Zeitpräferenzen haben als Menschen, die noch im Berufsleben stehen, beeinflussen sie durch ihren größer werdenden Anteil an der Wählerschaft die programmatische Ausrichtung der Parteien und damit die Ausgaben der öffentlichen Hand.
