Abstract

Da die amtliche Statistik den Umfang der gesamten Schattenwirtschaft nicht gesondert nachweist, sind Schätzungen erforderlich. Dieser Beitrag systematisiert die hierbei verwendeten Methoden. Da für Deutschland insbesondere von Schneider verschiedene Schätzergebnisse vorliegen, konzentriert er sich auf die Schätzmethode seiner Arbeiten. Die von Schneider genutzte Bargeldmethode offenbart bei detaillierter Betrachtung eine solche Vielzahl von Schwächen, dass das ausgewiesene Schattenwirtschaftsvolumen grundsätzlich zu hinterfragen und die Ergebnisse als nicht voll belastbar einzuschätzen sind. Dies gilt es künftig den zahlreichen Nutzern der Schätzergebnisse verstärkt zu verdeutlichen.
