Abstract

The German economic policy is characterized by the conception of Ordnungspolitik, which may be translated as economic order policy. The same is true for the Saxon strategy in the international competition for mobile production factors, especially foreign direct investments. Saxony is anxious to improve its political and economic framework for entrepreneurs, including infrastructure measures as well as a reduction of bureaucratic obstacles or an improvement of the scientific cooperation in Saxony. Main infrastructure measure in the current past has been the expansion of the airport Leipzig/Halle which is the central axis of mobility in our region today. An additional infrastructure project is the highway from Leipzig to Chemnitz (A72) which will connect two economic centers in Saxony in the near future. It has been the focus of the Saxon governmental endeavor to put the bills of theses projects through as soon as possible. Additionally, the efforts of the Saxon government to improve the cooperation between scientific institutions like universities as well as universities of applied sciences and private enterprise must be emphasized. In this way the Saxon government has been able to induce a large number of economic settlements and direct investments in Saxony. The rate of unemployment could be reduced, too. But there are additional challenges for the Saxon Ordnungspolitik in the future, too.
