Zur Konzipierung bevölkerungs-politischer Maßnahmen: Armutsbekämpfung oder Familienplanung?

    Das weltweite schnelle Bevölkerungswachstum der vergangenen 30 Jahre wird sich aller Voraussicht nach auch in den kommenden Jahrzehnten fortsetzen. Nach Schätzungen des Bevölkerungsfonds der Vereinten Nationen (United Nations Fund for Population Activities = UNFPA) wird die Weltbevölkerung, die im Jahr 1993 auf 5,57 Mrd. Menschen veranschlagt wurde, im Jahr 2000 auf 6,25 Mrd., im Jahr 2025 auf 8,5 Mrd. und im Jahr 2050 auf 10 Mrd. Menschen angewachsen sein. Der Anteil der Entwicklungsländer an der Weltbevölkerung wird sich dabei von 77 % (im Jahr 1990) auf 84 % (im Jahr 2025) erhöhen, weil das erwartete Weltbevölkerungswachstum zu 95 % in den Entwicklungsländern stattfindet. In den Industrieländern hat sich hingegen das Bevölkerungswachstum extrem verlangsamt und ist weitgehend sogar zum Stillstand gekommen.
