Psychologische Aspekte von Bargeld in Not- und Krisenzeiten

Abstract

In Krisenzeiten ist weltweit ein Anstieg des Bargeldbedarfs zu beobachten. Obwohl die Menschen während der Coronavirus-Pandemie aufgrund der Lockdowns weniger Bargeld ausgeben konnten als vor der Krise, nahm der Bargeldumlauf trotzdem zu. Dieses Paradoxon wird vor allem auf die Funktion des Bargelds als Wertaufbewahrungsmittel zurückgeführt. In diesem Beitrag wird aus wirtschaftspsychologischer Sicht analysiert, welche Mechanismen das menschliche Verhalten in Entscheidungssituationen unter großer Unsicherheit wie in Krisenzeiten beeinflussen. Im Falle des "Bargeldhortens" können Angst, das Verhalten anderer, soziale Repräsentationen sowie Polarisierungstendenzen eine Rolle spielen. In diesem Zusammenhang wird unterschieden, welche Verhaltensmuster unbewusst weitergegeben werden und diskutiert, inwieweit sich diese Prozesse für nachfolgende Generationen ändern könnten.
