Währungspolitik in den asiatischen NICs: Von der Dollar-Kopplung zum Yen-Block?

Abstract

Die asiatisch-pazifische Region hat sich in den letzten beiden Jahrzehnten zu einem neuen Wachstumszentrum der Weltwirtschaft entwickelt. Maßgeblich dazu beigetragen haben die vier asiatischen NICs (Newly Industrializing Countries) Südkorea, Taiwan, Hongkong und Singapur: Im Gefolge Japans haben sie in einem rasanten wirtschaftlichen Aufholprozeß Anschluß an die Gruppe der etablierten Industrienationen gefunden und andere Schwellenländer, die vergleichbare oder gar bessere Startbedingungen hatten, weit hinter sich gelassen. Ermöglicht wurde das Aufholen dieser kleinen, rohstoffarmen und bevölkerungsreichen Länder vor allem durch eine Wirtschaftspolitik, die auf Exportorientierung anstelle von Importsubstitution setzte.
