Abstract

Die Umsetzung der Idee des freien Zugangs zu wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen im Internet ist in vielen Wissenschaftsdisziplinen längst noch nicht so weit gediehen, wie es technisch möglich wäre. Die Entscheidung, in Open-Access-Zeitschriften zu publizieren, sollte nicht nur vom individuellen, sondern vielmehr vom - unbestrittenen! - kollektiven Nutzen abhängig gemacht werden. Längst nicht alles, was als Vorbehalt gegenüber dieser Publikationsform diskutiert wird, erweist sich bei näherer Prüfung wirklich als Nachteil. Der Einfluss der Arbeitgeber und sonstiger Organisationen der Wissenschaft auf die Entscheidung zugunsten Open Access ist überraschend gering und sollte verstärkt werden.
