Abstract

Ideenreichtum, Flexibilität und Agilität - klassische Charakteristika von KMU - sind in einer globalisierten Welt nicht nur erforderlich, sondern werden belohnt. Kleine und mittlere Unternehmen sind damit in einer guten Position sich der Globalisierung zu stellen und davon zu profitieren. Dennoch setzen viele KMU nach wie vor ausschließlich auf regionale und nationale Märkte. Fehlende finanzielle und personelle Ressourcen sowie ein Mangel an entsprechenden Fähigkeiten stellen die dominierenden Barrieren für die Internationalisierung von KMU dar. Die internationale Vernetzung von KMU stellt ein geeignetes Instrument dar, diesen Barrieren zu begegnen. So wurden im Rahmen des EU-Projekts NICE fünf Kooperationsbörsen in fünf Ländern mit 190 Unternehmen durchgeführten und 62 Unternehmensgespräche vereinbart, die in 15 Kooperationen mündeten. Die Unterstützung der Internationalisierung von KMU erfordert Zeit, soziale Netzwerke und Vertrauensbildung. Viele KMU benötigen unterstützende Dienstleistungen, um den Schritt in die Internationalisierung zu wagen.
