Abstract

Die Führung und Steuerung von Museen steht vor verschiedenen Herausforderungen und Veränderungen gegenüber. Organisation, Philosophie und Instrumente der Museumsführung wurden bisher kaum wissenschaftlich untersucht. Insbesondere die Art und Weise, wie Museen gesteuert werden, stand bislang nicht im Fokus der Forschung.Der vorliegende Bericht setzt an dieser Lücke an und verfolgt das Ziel, die Steuerung von Museen in Zeiten wachsender Ansprüche und Herausforderungen herauszuarbeiten. Dazu wurde eine empirische Erhebung durchgeführt, in der die Verwaltungsleiter von 397 größeren Museen in Deutschland, Österreich und der Schweiz befragt wurden. Die Rücklaufquote betrug 45%.
