Abstract

Der Schutz des Verbrauchers ist für die Funktionsweise der Marktwirtschaft von eminenter Bedeutung, da es die Wünsche der Verbraucher sind, die letztlich über die volkswirtschaftliche Produktion bestimmen sollen. Zu klären ist daher zunächst, wie eine Wirtschaftsordnung aussehen muss, um der Erreichung dieses Zieles möglichst nahe kommt. Damit ist die Frage nach der Aufgabe der Politik bzw. des Staates aufgeworfen. Was kann die Politik zum Schutz des Verbrauchers beitragen und wo liegt die Grenze politischer Eingriffe? Mit diesen Fragen hat sich F. A. von Hayek zeitlebens beschäftigt. Deshalb sollen in diesem Essay seine wegweisenden Erkenntnisse zur Funktionsweise der Marktwirtschaft sowie zur Frage behandelt werden, welche Aufgabe der Politik allgemein in der Marktwirtschaft und speziell für den Schutz des Verbrauchers zukommt. Beides wird in enger Anlehnung an seine Originalwerke geschehen, angesichts der gebotenen Kürze allerdings nur anhand ausgewählter Aufsätze und der fundamentalen „Verfassung der Freiheit“. Auf Sekundärliteratur wird dagegen verzichtet.
