Sinkendes Vertrauen, zunehmende Ungleichheit? Die Performanz des deutschen Sozialstaats im Spiegel der öffentlichen Meinung

Abstract

Der Sozialstaat genießt in Deutschland eine hohe Unterstützung in der Bevölkerung, da er soziale Risiken abfedert und so Legitimität der Demokratie stärkt. Gleichwohl ist das Vertrauen der deutschen Bevölkerung in den Sozialstaat nachhaltig erschüttert, wie dieses Policy Paper mithilfe aktueller Umfragedaten des Konstanzer Ungleichheitsbarometers zeigt. Besonders geringes Vertrauen haben die Befragten hinsichtlich der langfristigen Finanzierbarkeit von Rente und Gesundheitsversorgung; sie sehen auch große Defizite bei der Verteilungsgerechtigkeit im und durch den Sozialstaat. Eine Vertrauenskrise des Sozialstaats kann langfristig das Vertrauen in die Demokratie unterminieren. Die Ergebnisse unterstreichen daher die Notwendigkeit politischer Maßnahmen zur Stärkung des Vertrauens in staatliche Institutionen und demokratische Prozesse.
