Abstract

This paper describes and evaluates micro data sources on wealth accumulation and savings behavior in Germany. It argues that empirical savings research could derive particularly interesting insights from the German evidence. It presents quality, breadth, and availability of the existing data sources, discusses where gaps exist, and describes which attempts are being made to fill these gaps. Additional attention is given to the potential use of German data for cross-national comparisons.
