Abstract

In a number of works on education of women, it has been asserted that educating a woman is equal to educating a family and that women are worth training more than their counterparts, men. However, despite the fact that positive contribution of women’s education to the economy and society has been long known, education of women in many nations, particularly in developing countries, needs to attract more attention. This paper analyses the economic dimension of women education and examines its possible contributions to developing countries. First, it explores the current state of women’s education, then analyses its economic dimension in terms of the impacts of education on private and social returns. Finally, it presents an evaluation of the importance of women’s education for developing countries. The findings include: First, the net returns of education and training on women are much more there of men. Second, the returns of education of women in developing countries are more than in developed nations. Third, equality of gender in education process do affect economic development positively. These findings provide the economical reason for the need for increasing the education level of women.
