Abstract

Er is al veel geschreven over de kritische succesfactoren van diverse economische beleidsmodellen. Het Nederlandse "poldermodel" wordt vaak als een voorbeeldmodel gezien door en voor de overige Europese landen. Als men de zoeker richt op beleidsmodellen buiten Europa, dan valt het Nieuw-Zeelandse "kiwimodel" op. Dit land heeft één van de meest ingrijpende hervormingen van alle OECD landen ondergaan, en is van een gesloten economie met veel overheidsbemoeienis veranderd in een van de meest onbeschermde en liberale economieën van de OECD landen. In dit artikel zal verkend worden wat Nederland van het Nieuw-Zeelandse "kiwimodel" kan leren. Allereerst zullen het poldermodel en het kiwimodel globaal worden besproken, evenals de achtergronden voor de ontwikkeling van het daarmee gepaard gaande beleid. Vervolgens zullen de overeenkomsten en verschillen worden behandeld tussen deze twee landen en de gehanteerde modellen. Hierna zal worden bekeken op welke punten het poldermodel verbeterd zou kunnen door middel van maatregelen die in het kiwimodel een positieve uitwerking hebben gehad.
