Abstract

Leven Lang Ontwikkelen (LLO) is belangrijk om de veranderende arbeidsmarkt het hoofd te kunnen bieden. Hoewel LLO in verschillende vormen kan plaatsvinden, richten we ons in dit rapport met name op non-formele (cursussen en trainingen) en formele scholing (opleidingen). Er zijn namelijk grote verschillen in deelname aan deze LLO-vormen tussen werknemers. Zo is de deelname van oudere werknemers gemiddeld lager dan die van jongere werknemers. In dit rapport is een overzicht gegeven van verschillende persoons-, werk-, en werkgeverskenmerken die samenhangen met deelname aan deze Leven Lang Ontwikkelen (LLO)-activiteiten. Naast leeftijd, blijken er voornamelijk verschillen in LLO-deelname afhankelijk van de mate waarin iemand gemotiveerd en zich in staat voelt om te leren. Ook de gepercipieerde noodzaak om te leren blijkt erg belangrijk (en vaak te laag ingeschat volgens onderzoekers en experts). Een ander belangrijke factor is de leercultuur in de organisatie. In bedrijven waar formele HR-instrumenten ingezet worden is meer cursusdeelname onder werknemers. De kans op de inzet van formele HR-instrumenten zijn in het MKB relatief klein t.o.v. het grootbedrijf. In bedrijven waar meer ingezet wordt op informeel HR, door bijvoorbeeld het geven van feedback en het gevoel fouten te mogen maken, wordt beduidend meer informeel geleerd (leren door te doen).
