Abstract

This technical note aims to present the dplyr package, from the R programming language, used in data manipulation and pre-processing. The database used in the examples of this work is the ranking of competitiveness among Brazilian states, prepared by the Center for Public Leadership (CLP). Some ways of filtering, ordering, selecting, preparing statistical summaries, grouping, inserting and deleting records from this data set will be illustrated. One of the advantages of dplyr is the similarity of its commands with the syntax of the structured query language SQL (Standard Query Language), which makes its scripts more intuitive, practical and elegant in data.frames manipulation routines, mainly when the volume of these is relatively large.
