Abstract

Chile es un exitoso país de ingresos medios. En los últimos 30 años, Chile ha progresado como nunca en su historia. El nivel de ingreso per cápita aumentó para ser el más alto en América Latina. El salario mínimo se multiplicó por un factor de 12. La pobreza disminuyó desde 1990 hasta la actualidad de un 52% de la población a un 8,6%. La inflación, que durante más de un siglo fue un problema insoluble para todos los gobiernos, ahora fluctúa alrededor del 3% sin mucho esfuerzo. La solvencia financiera del Estado mejoró sustancialmente gracias a que el gasto social aumentó notablemente. Incluso la distribución del ingreso, medida por encuestas del tipo CASEN, ha mejorado en los últimos 10 años.
