Encrucijadas de la moneda única: Algunas claves para una reflexión desde la periferia

Abstract

El texto propone una reflexión sobre la viabilidad y las implicaciones de la Unión Económica y Monetaria. Dicho análisis se aborda desde la perspectiva de la periferia meridional de la Unión Europea, sobre todo la economía española. La argumentación se articula alrededor de tres ideas: a) la moneda única está en el origen del crack financiero, b) la reconfiguración de la zona euro llevado a cabo por los responsables comunitarios ha preservado e incluso ha agudizado los desequilibrios y asimetrías que desencadenaron la crisis económica, y c) el debate sobre la superación de la misma contiene y al mismo tiempo trasciende el dilema que plantea mantenerse o abandonar el espacio monetario integrado.
