Greenhouse gases mitigation: global externalities and short-termism

Abstract

Policies aimed at greenhouse gases mitigation involve domestic tradeoffs and international externalities, resulting in conflicts over feasibility and implementation. We investigate two aspects: the internalization of international externalities and the consequences of short-term perspectives in climate policies. Using model predictive control, we explore counterfactual scenarios with varying policy horizons for policymakers.
